BBB Foundation offers the Students of Integrity Scholarships to recognize students who personify and communicate ethics in the real world, as demonstrated through leadership, community service, personal integrity, and academic accomplishments. Scholarships will be awarded to the winning applications submitted by high school juniors and senior students residing in Alaska, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington or Western Wyoming*.

*Eligible counties in Western Wyoming include: Teton, Uinta and Lincoln.

Before submitting an application, please review the following information below to make sure your application meets the scholarship guidelines.

Scholarship

Create a 90-second video discussing Why BBB and Trust are important to local businesses and communities. Applicants are encouraged to utilize BBB Northwest + Pacific’s components including the BBB App, online business directory, scam tracker and customer reviews, etc. Discuss viewpoints and give examples where applicable. All video submissions become property of BBB. No mailed applications will be accepted.

Ten finalists will be selected from the application pool. Finalist videos will be published on the Students of Integrity Scholarship website (https://bbb-scholarship.org/scholarship-videos/) for public voting. People can vote for as many videos as they choose, but only get one vote per video. Students are encouraged to share their video with friends and family or on social media to generate more votes. Only votes from the scholarship website will be considered. Only one video submission will be chosen to receive the $5000 scholarship.

Additional Information

Students are also required to provide the following:

  • Personal Statement (300 words or less)
    • Brief background about yourself, passions, goals, plans for the future, etc.
  • Activities & Community Service
    • List and explain any awards received related to academic achievement. (300 words or less)
    • Describe at least three school-related extra-curricular activities. (300 words or less)
    • Describe at least one leadership role that you have held. (300 words or less)

Video requirements

  • Videos may not be longer than 90-seconds. Points will be deducted for every two seconds
  • If using music, it must be an original work of the student(s) or be licensed under the Creative Commons If neither licensed under the Creative Commons License nor an original work of music, students must submit verification of permission from the Copyright owner to use the music.
  • If statistics are used, please cite

How to submit your video

  • Upload your video on YouTube, Dailymotion, Facebook or Instagram.
  • Complete the online application form (https://bbb-scholarship.org/scholarships/). If applying as a group, each student must complete all sections of the online application.
  • Copy and paste the link to your video into the online application. Verify that the link is correct. If you are unable to provide a link to your video, submit the form and email Hannah Balbon at hannah.balbon@thebbb.org.
  • Applications must be submitted online before 11:59 PST on Monday, March 11, 2019. Incomplete online or mailed applications after this date will not be considered.

Selection

Ten finalists will be selected from the application pool. Only one video submission will be chosen to receive the $5000 scholarship. Recipient will be announced April 2019. Name and school may be released to the public and/or news media for promotional purposes. Non-winners will be notified via email after the winner has been contacted.

Criteria

BBB Foundation’s selection committee and panel of third-party judges will evaluate applications using the following criteria:

  • 25% – Number of votes garnered on the Students of Integrity Scholarship website
  • 25% – Representation of Better Business Bureau brand
  • 25% – Content, creativity, and memorability
  • 25% – Personal statement, leadership, activities, and community service

Eligibility

To qualify, students must:

  • Have a cumulative GPA of a 3.0 or higher.
  • Attend a high school in Alaska, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington, and Western Wyoming. Finalists will be required to produce an official transcript on a 4.0 scale from an academic institution. The letter must be enclosed in a sealed envelope.
  • Attending an institute of higher education, whether university, college, vocational school, etc.
  • Group applications must have no more than three students. 

Deadline

Applications must be submitted online before 11:59 PST on Monday, March 11, 2019. Incomplete online or mailed applications after this date will not be considered.
